Reimagining the NICU: a human-centered design approach to healthcare innovation

The Reimagining the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit workshop sought to generate ideas for the future, optimal NICU without speciļ¬c site or client constraints. Key themes include family-centered care, technology-enabled care, neighborhood and village design and investing in the care team. Recommendations include a supportive physical environment, celebrating milestones, complementary and alternative medicine, enhancing the transition of care, aiding the transition period, and leveraging technology.
What if we "reimagined" the OR alongside clinicians?

According to the American College of Surgeons (MA Chapter), Americans experiences an average of six operating room procedures in a lifetime. Any invasive procedure brings a significant amount of risk and expense to both the patient and healthcare organization. If we can improve the effectiveness of these physical spaces, we can help improve outcomes and overall public health.
What if we "reimagined" the ICU alongside clinicians?

On the final day of the Healthcare Facilities Symposium (in Boston), Thursday September 19, weā€™ll kick off the next two-day ā€œReimagining Workshopā€ focusing on critical care spaces, presented by the Facility Guidelines InstituteĀ (FGI) & theSociety of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). Weā€™re assembling leading designers and clinicians, including folks from Harvard, Kaiser, Brigham Womanā€™s, Mayo Clinic, and more. Participating architects and clinicians earn continuing education credits.
