Bob Gulick recognized early the benefits of a commitment to sustainability
Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch (M+NLB) announced today that engineer Bob Gulick in the company’s Portland, Ore. office, is the winner of the Oregon/SW Washington BetterBricks Award in the category of Design Engineer. The BetterBricks Awards are given by the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance and celebrate the people behind the best, most energy-efficient projects in the Northwest.
Gulick became a mechanical engineer in 1972, and soon after joined the International Solar Energy Society designing sustainable projects that incorporated renewable energy and leading-edge, energy-efficient techniques. His impact has been felt on over a dozen LEED® projects and many notable buildings throughout the Northwest, including the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, a winner of the State of Oregon Governor’s Energy Award; Baker Prairie Middle School in Canby, Ore., which boasts the lowest energy intensity of any school in the state; and University of Portland’s Swindells Hall, a winner of the 2000 ASHRAE Regional Technology Award.
“Bob has been ahead of his time for so long that he is a tremendous resource to any design team working on a high-performance project,” said Karl Atteberry, a principal in M+NLB’s Portland office. “His approach is innovative and successful because he is clear about his commitment to energy efficiency and sustainable design, and finds inspiration in pushing the boundaries of convention.”
Gulick received the award at today’s Oregon/SW Washington BetterBricks ceremony at the Nines Hotel in Portland. In addition to Design Engineer, awards are given to winners in the following categories: Architect, Multi-Disciplinary Team, Advocate, Owner/Developer, Facility Manager/Operator, and Service Contractor. In addition to the Oregon/SW Washington awards, winners are also designated in the Puget Sound, Montana, and Idaho regions.
