Electrical Engineering

Powering Without Interruption

Reliable power is fundamental to modern healthcare and other mission critical spaces, including airports, research labs, and data centers.

Every clinical system—from imaging equipment and operating rooms to life safety, communications, medical air, digital records, and building controls—depends on electrical infrastructure that performs when it is needed most.

60+ years of experience – Hundreds of healthcare clients – National and international reach

Reliability Designed Around the Mission

Healthcare electrical design is not simply a question of providing more capacity or redundancy. The right solution depends on the clinical services being supported, the consequences of interruption, the condition of existing infrastructure, and how the organization expects to grow.

Our engineers evaluate the complete power system—from the utility service and campus distribution network to the final connection serving clinical equipment.

We help clients address:

  • Essential electrical system configuration
  • Utility service and medium-voltage distribution
  • Emergency and standby power
  • Equipment and branch-circuit coordination
  • Power quality for sensitive clinical technology
  • Capacity planning and infrastructure modernization
  • Selective coordination, short-circuit, and arc-flash analysis
  • Renovations and shutdowns within operating hospitals
  • Electrification and growing technology loads
  • Distributed energy resources and microgrids

Advancing Healthcare Resilience

Mazzetti has been working beyond conventional emergency-power models to help clients use cleaner and more diverse energy resources without compromising reliability.

Our professionals have contributed and informed standards involving NFPA 70, NFPA 99, and NFPA 110, helping advance pathways for microgrids, fuel cells, energy storage, and other alternative sources to support essential electrical systems. We’ve convened industry collaborators around the adoption of microgrids as emergency power sources for healthcare facilities.

That policy and code work is reinforced through real-world implementation. Mazzetti has helped engineer renewable-energy microgrid projects at healthcare campuses including Kaiser Permanente Richmond and Ontario, while advising Valley Children’s Healthcare on a large-scale renewable microgrid and long-duration energy-storage strategy.

These projects demonstrate how emerging energy technologies can improve resilience, reduce operating costs, support decarbonization, and inform broader industry adoption.

Ready for what comes next

Power infrastructure must support today’s critical operations while preparing for electrification, new clinical technologies, grid instability, extreme weather, and a rapidly changing energy landscape.

Mazzetti brings together top-tier engineering, energy strategy, code expertise, and implementation experience to create electrical systems that protect critical operations today—and expand what is possible tomorrow.
