Challenge

The challenge was to design a comprehensive medical facility that caters to various healthcare needs, including women’s health, maternal/child care, pediatrics, and intensive care. The goal was to create a state-of-the-art environment that supports clinical functionality while providing a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for patients.

Solution

Mazzetti provided MEP, IT/LV, and lighting design for Asante Rogue’s Regional Medical Center, a new six-story building, 345,405 square feet. Lighting design services included interior and exterior site lighting throughout the project, with thoughtful lighting strategies supporting patient care, staff needs, way-finding, and the overall patient experience. Additionally, Mazzetti provided MEP design for Asante’s new central utility plant to serve and support the hospital expansion and renovation.

Outcome

The medical center includes facilities for women’s health, maternal/child care, pediatrics, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NINICU), special care nursery, 64 ICU beds, 20 operating rooms with surgery support, and additional spaces for support functions like supply chain and sterile processing. This expansion is situated on the North side of the campus and is connected to the existing six-floor patient tower.

The new central utility plant serves and supports the hospital expansion, renovation, and existing facility. The CUP includes new utility services, medium voltage switchgear serving two 4000A unit subs, and emergency system of (2) 2MW paralleled generators. The mechanical system includes 7500 tons of total future chilled water capacity to serve the entire site (5000 tons of current with 2500 tons for future). The cooling tower capacity, serving chillers, matches quantity and capacity of the chillers. When the central plant chilled water system is shut down, 315 tons of waterside economizer heat exchanger can provide free cooling during colder periods. Additionally, on site is a new fuel oil systems consisting of a 30,000 and a 25,000 gallon underground tank.
