UCI Health — Irvine Medical Campus
Challenge
UCI Health sought to expand access to advanced healthcare services across coastal and southern Orange County while advancing its academic mission to Discover. Teach. Heal. The health system needed a new campus that would complement UCI Medical Center in Orange, broaden access to specialty and acute care services, and create a destination for clinical research, teaching, and innovation. The campus also aimed to foster healing by connecting patients, caregivers, and visitors to the surrounding natural environment.
Solution
Mazzetti provided comprehensive medical equipment planning and project delivery support for the development of the new UCI Health Irvine Campus, a full-service academic healthcare destination anchored by a 350,000-square-foot hospital with 144 patient beds. The campus integrates acute care, ambulatory care, specialty services, cancer treatment, and clinical research within a connected healthcare ecosystem.
The development includes the 225,000-square-foot Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and Ambulatory Care building, which houses advanced cancer treatment programs, including an adult hematopoietic stem cell and bone marrow transplant program. The campus also connects with the previously completed UCI Health Center for Advanced Care, creating a comprehensive academic medical center designed to bring world-class care closer to the communities UCI Health serves.
Mazzetti supported the project from design through construction, helping verify critical equipment installations, align equipment placement with clinical workflows, and coordinate procurement, deliveries, and installations to support project goals, safety requirements, and operational readiness.
Outcome
The completed UCI Health Irvine Campus expands access to advanced healthcare services, specialty care, cancer treatment, and clinical research opportunities throughout Orange County. By complementing the existing UCI Medical Center in Orange, the new campus strengthens UCI Health’s regional network and creates a full-service academic medical center that connects patients to hundreds of ongoing clinical trials and one of the nation’s leading academic research institutions.
