Mazzetti is among a rare group of firms that didn’t just commit to purpose in a values statement—we wrote it into our legal structure, becoming a California Benefit Corporation over a decade ago. It’s a promise we can’t quietly walk back: measurable good for society and the environment, delivered alongside financial performance.
What is a Benefit Corporation?
A Benefit Corporation is a legal, for-profit corporate entity recognized by state laws. In some jurisdictions, this corporate structure is referred to as a ‘Public Benefit Corporation’.
Benefit Corporations are legally required to deliver a “public benefit” with a measurable positive impact on society and the environment.
In accordance with specific state laws, they must publish an annual report assessing social and environmental performance, often using a recognized third-party standard.
Is it similar to a B Corp Certification?
A “Certified B Corp” is a voluntary, third-party certification issued by the nonprofit organization B Lab. An organization can be both, but they are not one in the same.
As an early adopter Benefit Corporation, Mazzetti is structured to deliver measurable benefit to society and the environment, alongside financial performance. That commitment shapes how we make decisions, how we serve clients, and how we define success.
