I think the most important advancements for mankind would be to come up with inexpensive, non-polluting sources of energy, clean water, and waste disposal. I have a feeling that all three advancements are related.
I have more than 37 years in the consulting engineering and construction fields. My technical expertise covers a broad range of HVAC, process, controls, piping, and plumbing engineering for healthcare, bio-pharmaceutical, electronics, commercial, and education facilities. I have extensive experience working with state design authorities, specifically the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development and the Division of the State Architect.
As a principal at Mazzetti, I spend my time planning and delivering on highly complex engineering projects that often involve complicated yet innovative design systems. I enjoy collaborating with a team to drive high-quality designs and work to achieve the best possible end results for the building owner and client. I am an engineer, first and foremost; I take pride in my work and believe it shows.

My noteworthy project work includes: basis of design for all MEP systems, utility demand estimates, preliminary system sizing for the California Prison Receivership Project; construction administration for HVAC and piping/plumbing systems for 3-story, 3-building laboratory complex for Stanford University; and participated and prepared energy studies for eight Northern California Kaiser Permanente hospital campuses which considered approximately 30 possible energy savings features for each campus, performed payback analyses for each feature and created a shortlist of approximately eight recommendations, with estimated costs, for each campus.
In my spare time, I spend time with my six children and their kids – ten so far. For fun I get out to ski and play golf. I do most of the car repairs on my own, and am currently restoring a 1953 Mercedes Adenauer.
I’ve always been an engineer; my particular interest has always been related to automobiles. My concentration in college was vehicle dynamics, but the auto industry had cooled when I graduated in 1975. I went into the power and petro-chemical industries, then booming, and then into cogen-related engineering. I landed in the building industry and have been happily here ever since.
I was born in Sacramento and now live there – though I’ve also lived in South Bend, IN, Chicago, IL, and other places in California, including the Gilla Bend Indian Reservation. Before joining Mazzetti, my favorite role was working for Comsip Enterprise in South El Monte, where we designed and built gas and liquid processing systems in our shop; I could build prototypes and play with them to see if they’d work.
