Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch Principal Designated ASHE Senior Status

Jul 12, 2010

Engineering design and consulting firm Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch (M+NLB) announced today that Principal and CEO Walter Vernon has received the lifetime designation of “Senior Status in ASHE” (SASHE), awarded by the American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE).

ASHE is a personal membership group of the American Hospital Association. The SASHE designation demonstrates commitment and service to ASHE, and dedication to the field of healthcare engineering and facilities management. SASHE recognizes outstanding leaders within the organization—those who have made a continuous and concerted effort to advance, enhance, and enlarge the body of knowledge of the profession. The review and evaluation of nomination is reviewed by an ASHE volunteer leadership peer committee and appointment is approved by the ASHE Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

Vernon has been involved in the design and construction of healthcare facilities for his entire 25-year career. As a result of his experience and expertise, he is a former Principal Member of Panel 17 (Healthcare) of the National Electrical Code, and serves as the Chair for the Electrical Systems Technical Committee for NFPA 99 (the “Healthcare” Code.) He was the vice-chair for the IEEE/ANSI White Book, the International Standard for the Design of Electrical Systems in Healthcare Facilities. Vernon is one of three electrical engineers on the ASHE Healthcare Guidelines Revision Committee, which creates the document formerly known as the “AIA Guidelines,” which serves as the building code for hospitals in most U.S. states.  In addition, he served eight years as Electrical Engineer for the California Hospital Building Safety Board, and currently serves on several subcommittees for the Board.

“For most of my career, I have been privileged to work with the people who operate healthcare facilities. In that time, I have come to deeply admire and respect the work that they do, and the way they do it in the context of the challenges that they face,” said Vernon.  “And, I have been honored to be asked by ASHE to serve in various positions that help them to support these facility engineers. Because I am so impressed with the work that ASHE does to support these unsung facility heroes, this ASHE award means very much to me.”
