Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch Becomes Three-time Winner of Sustainable Healthcare Award

Jun 03, 2009

Consulting and engineering firm Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch (M+NLB) announced today that it has earned a “Champion for Change” award for the third year in row. The award is given annually by Practice Greenhealth and recognizes companies that have made extraordinary efforts to both green their operations and help the healthcare industry become more sustainable.

M+NLB has a broad healthcare design practice across the U.S., including clients such as Kaiser Permanente, Hospital Corporation of America, Sutter Health, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, and Stanford Hospitals & Clinics.

“Five years ago, M+NLB created our Climate Change Consulting business, focused primarily on our core markets of healthcare, data centers, and laboratories,” said company CEO Walt Vernon. “This service has allowed us to take significant leadership roles in the changes that are occurring quickly in this area, and to help our clients know about, anticipate, and successfully deal with them.”

M+NLB has been working with clients to provide climate change consulting services since 2008, measuring client building emissions, helping develop a greenhouse gas reduction plan, monetizing emissions and verifying reductions. The company has also undertaken several internal measures to make their own operations more sustainable, including meeting most of the requirements to become a San Francisco-certified “Green Business,” and completing a greenhouse gas inventory of their own facilities in order to register with the California Climate Action Registry.

Vernon said the work M+NLB has been doing with clients to prepare for the new world of climate change regulation does more than just reduce emissions and save money.

“Our climate change work has allowed us to live out our vision of ‘making the world a better place’ through our efforts, and this award is a tribute to those people at this firm who have done, and continue to do, so much in service to this vision,” said Vernon.
Founded in 1962, M+NLB is a full-service mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology consulting and design firm, also providing value-added commissioning and medical/laboratory equipment planning and procurement services. It has offices in San Francisco, Irvine and Sacramento, Calif.; Nashville, Tenn.; Baton Rouge, La. and Houston. The firm serves the healthcare, mission critical, laboratory, and higher education sectors. M+NLB was one of the first engineering firms in the U.S. to add a climate consulting practice to their list of client services, offering advice on measuring, reducing and monetizing client greenhouse gas emissions.
