This $16.5M; 142,000sf sustainable school project includes mechanical systems as a part of an integrated design to reduce energy consumption and provide a better environment for education. With passive building elements and daylighting limiting thermal loads, natural convection ventilation and cooling enhances the environment 60% of the time. Displacement ventilation supplements natural convection the remainder. Water is conserved by using waterless urinals. The underlying principle of minimalism provides energy efficiency below conventional costs. After 2 full years of commissioning, the school boasts the lowest energy use intensity of any school in the State of Oregon.
