The new laboratory building is a two-story, 50,000sf facility, including animal and food science laboratories, classrooms, and administrative areas. The building will be located in an older part of the campus, requiring relocation of existing utilities, including campus underground trunk voice and data wiring, normal and standby power services to an adjacent building, and relocation of a generator. Design of the building includes connection to the University primary voltage underground power distribution system and a standby power generator. Standby power is provided for life-safety requirements and for coolers, freezers, and critical laboratory experimental circuits. The power system is designed to accommodate future changes. The building will be fully secured, with controlled access and CCTV surveillance. M+NLB provided electrical and technology design, including laboratory, office, and exterior lighting, full voice and data infrastructure wiring, and security.
