Kadlec Medical Center, Surgical Services & Patient Tower Addition, Richland, WA
Architect: Curtis Group Architects
$65M
Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch (M+NLB) provided the MEPT design for the new six-story, 173,500sf patient tower. The project includes new private medical/surgical beds, a pediatric unit, bariatric rooms, and shell space. Indirect lighting is used in all patient areas. The new tower is connected to the existing structure on the second, third, and fourth floors. The 12-suite surgery expansion has integrated surgical booms with real-time video and picture archiving and communication systems capability. The rotary fly wheel (battery-operated) UPS system eliminates the ten-second generator activation delay for all critical and life-safety branch power.
M+NLB’s design allows for expansion of the tower from six to ten floors. M+NLB also designed a significant expansion to the central plant, including a new chiller (expanding the capacity of the plant to 2,500 tons) and a complete redesign of the primary/secondary distribution system. All air distribution was done from an interstitial space centrally located in the new tower and required custom air-handling units specifically designed for this application.
