The need for affordable student housing encouraged CCAC to develop a new 45,100sf student residence in Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood. The 24,100sf, three-story dormitory is comprised of two adjoining buildings and is a long, rectangular structure consisting of 67 student bedrooms for 117 freshman students and rooms enough for six resident advisors and one staff supervisor. The smaller building accommodates the common-use areas, including a lounge with kitchen facilities on each floor that opens out onto a large outdoor terrace facing Clifton Street. 21,000sf of above- and below-grade parking for 36 cars is also included in the dormitory facility. Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch designed and engineered the MEP building systems for the entire facility.
