The school’s art, music, computer resources and library are all shared with the broader community. Notable features contributing to LEED Gold certification include: easy access to public transportation, facilities for cyclists, use of native, drought-resistant landscaping and preservation of on-site trees, extensive daylighting through use of skylights and operable windows, use of lightshelves, daylight sensors, and a high efficiency condensing gas boiler.
A 1.1kW demonstration photovoltaic system, complete with educational kiosk displaying system’s real-time electricity production, is also on display onsite. Displacement ventilation system was used to introduce up to 100% outdoor air controlled by CO2 sensors in all classrooms. Materials included use of low emission paints, carpeting, adhesives & sealants. 31% (by cost) of all materials were manufactured within 500 miles of the project site (61% with raw materials harvested or extracted within same radius) andconstruction waste management plan diverted 97% of all construction waste (by weight) from the landfill.
