




California Academy of Sciences Transition Museum Relocation San Francisco, CA

Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch (M+NLB) provided full MEP design services for the renovation of this six-story facility used for a temporary museum relocation. M+NLB evaluate the existing mechanical systems and engineered the replacement of the existing cooling system, including the cooling tower, pumps, and piping. We also modified the existing air handling units and installed new emergency rooftop generators and exhaust systems. Special use needs were addressed in the engineering system regarding hazardous storage rooms, which included explosion proof mechanical exhaust systems, foam-dispensing fire protection system, as well as hazardous storage and dispensing tanks with a separate dedicated fire pump. The laboratory design included fume hoods with a special exhaust. Emergency power backup was also required for the life-support systems within the aquarium, including the freshwater and saltwater storages and dispensing systems relied upon which hundreds of aquatic species rely.
