Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch designed the MEP systems for this 36-position NICU in an existing patient tower, including the lighting design. The waiting room features a color changing fiber-optic system, which uniformly back lights the glass and marble feature wall. The changing colors reinforce the awareness that changes in life are always occurring.
Dimmable side-emitting, fiber-optic lighting systems are concealed within the wave-shaped canopies over the bassinets, and each system is independently controlled with a wall dimmer. Down lights are fully adjustable and dimmable with additional accessories to provide adequate illumination at work areas, while shielding unwanted light from the infants. Custom arm-mounted exam lights contain two lamping sources and optical filters for precise visual diagnosis. All lighting fixtures incorporate ultraviolet filters, and all lamps were selected with stringent specifications for high-color rendition for accuracy in evaluating skin tones.
