Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch is providing sustainable consulting and MEP design services for this new 846,000sf hospital, emergency generator plant, and 1,000-car underground parking garage. The framework and development of the new hospital must anticipate future expansions of the Medical Center and reflect the flexibility to accommodate and adapt to continuous technological advancements and evolving interdisciplinary conditions in healthcare.
The hospital is designed as a horizontally organized, modular medical center to meet flexibility needs while allowing for future expansion. Included will be a central atrium and roof gardens meant to integrate the landscape within the building. The final result will include 366 additional all-private patient rooms, 32 state-of-the-art, flexible surgical and interventional operating rooms, a 48,000sf imaging department, a 48,000sf emergency department, as well as conference, cafeteria, and support spaces. Stanford University Medical Center is aiming to achieve several sustainability goals relating to the hospital, including: at least a LEED Silver rating, energy and water efficiency, day-lighting, displacement ventilation, and greenhouse gas emissions reduction.
