Dealing primarily with the built environment, our focus is on helping clients to achieve their environmental performance goals. BLUE has developed a 6 step process to addressing environmental performance. Our services can be delivered as part of one or multiple steps; however, the maximum impact can be provided through the complete process.

  • Assessing – The process of evaluating environmental performance and opportunities begins by evaluating the current state of the organizational motivators and drivers, operational goals, building systems, and environmental management practices. We understand that each organization has a unique set of motivators and drivers which influence decisions and processes.

  • Target Setting – Developing environmental performance goals is the next key step in the process of addressing environmental performance. By understanding the drivers and current state of environmental performance, an informed decision can be made regarding short-term and long-term performance goals.

  • Performance Improvement Analysis – With a clear understanding of the building systems and management practices through the assessments and having developed operational and environmental performance goals, a targeted analysis can be made on potential performance improvement opportunities. A cost assessment can also be valuable for performing financial analysis and making the business case for improvement measures.

  • Strategic Planning – The next step in the process is establishing a strategic plan for which to balance operational and environmental performance goals and in which to set an action plan to achieve them. The key to this step is to be ambitious enough to get results, yet practical in that the goals and targets can be achieved given the needed resources.

  • Implementation – Perhaps one of the most fundamental of the steps is actually implementing the strategic plan and putting in place improvement measures and programs.  An understanding of opportunities, barriers, and constraints combined with the confidence that comes from having an achievable and impactful strategic plan make sets the stage for success.

  • Monitoring, Verification, and Reporting – Continuous monitoring, verification/tracking, and reporting of progress towards goals on environmental performance is the final step in the cycle of understanding and addressing environmental performance. A fundamental element of this step is a continuous feedback loop which periodically repeats the entire process for the sake of making needed adjustments to the strategic plan.
